A Victorian hallway tiled in a basket weave pattern of Minton Hollins tiles in Solihull West Midlands, overall the floor was in a nice solid condition with the odd character crack here and there. We reaffixed any loose tiles that were found before the cleaning process was started.

As you may see from the ‘before’ photos the floor was heavily stained with old oils, bitumen, solvent carpet adhesive and finally red paint. This was definitely a challenge, but a challenge we rose to.

Using our range of Victorian restoration chemicals we were able remove all but the most soaked in stains; remember these stains have been there 50 plus years. We then thoroughly sealed the tiled hallway with a colour enhancing satin sealer which not allows the floor to breath but also helps protect the floor from further staining.

Stourbridge West Midlands, tiles by Craven Dunnill. Covered with a concoction of different floor finishes that had worn, become flaky creating an impression of dirty surface. These coatings would need to be removed if the tiles were to be thoroughly cleaned.

Once the floor polish had been removed we set to removing the trapped dirt and staining with our neutral cleaning products. The floor was then finally sealed with a breathable satin finish with colour enhancing properties.

Trapped beneath a coating of plaster, cement, carpet adhesive, oil and water staining lies a wonderful Victorian tiled hallway in Stourbridge West Midlands with tiles from T&R Boote of Burslem Stoke.

Initially it was hard to tell exactly what we would find beneath the builders mess, and as you can see from the slideshow the tiles look an altogether different colour. There was a variety of different carpet tacks and adhesives, splashes of paint; both solvent and water based.

Naturally there are still some stains evident, but considering the floor has seen over a hundred years, neglected by builders then locked beneath a carpet the finished result is very very pleasing.

We finished the floor with our new harder wearing breathable satin finish.

A nice Edwardian tiled hallway laid in a chequerboard style. This was another floor that had previously been under carpet. We had to remove adhesive, paint and plaster residue from the tiles and grout lines.

Once fully cleaned a high gloss polish was applied to the floor, like all our finishes this polish non-slop, hard wearing and easy to maintain.

This Victorian tiled floor had originally been trapped beneath a carpet for many years. We found a huge amount of dirt and contaminants to remove before the floor would look its best.

And as the floor is huge it was a miracle we completed the work in a day; including cutting out old concrete, laying a new substrate and tiles.

We enriched the colours and finish of the floor tiles with a quality sealer and finally a satin polish.

We also cleaned and sealed the pammets beneath the stairs, unfortunately we didn’t have time to photograph these.

Minton Floor Restoration Walsall

A few months back we worked on the floor next door with the same pattern, this customer was so impressed by what we had achieved next door that we were asked to restore this floor as well.

We found this floor to be technically cleaner, but it was apparent that someone had tried to repair the floor previously with original style tiles of metric sizing. This naturally created much large grout joints and the original style colours have alway been a little poor for restoration purposes; so we cut them out.

The photo set really isn’t that impressive due to the lighting condition this time of year.

Minton Floor Cleaning Walsall

Beneath the old varnish in this Walsall hallway lies a fantastic Victorian tiled floor with tiles by Craven Dunnill. Overall the floor was in really nice condition with a few smatterings of character in the form of the odd small oil stain and a couple of small cracks.

Our first task was to remove the varnish and get to the dirt below. After a thorough clean and drying off we enhanced the colours with our premium tile sealer and satin finish.

The result is floor that looks simply superb and easy to maintain.
