Whilst in an overall great condition this Victorian geometric tiled floor in Coalville had a few loose tiles that needed to be re-fixed. The loosening of the tiles was caused by vibration between the solid substrate beneath the tiles and the suspended timber floor in the next room.

Victorian Minton Floor Cleaning Melton Mowbray

A superb example of Victorian tiled flooring in Melton Mowbray Leicestershire consisting completely of 1.5″ tiles from Minton Hollins. The floor had a few loose sections but otherwise fully intact with the odd raised area where the substrate had swollen from moisture absorption. The floor looked as though the mopping water had actively trapped excess dirt between applications and paint splatters where quite common.

In order to give this Victorian tiled hallway a complete makeover it was essential that we stripped away all the old polishes and sealers that were present. This would allow us to get to the meat of the soiling and make for cleaner more hygienic floor.

The end result shows the floor with a hard wearing satin gloss finish that enhances the natural clay colours.

A well aged Victorian floor in Leicester laid throughout the hallway area. The floor was sealed with a light oil, this had attracted a great deal of dirt over the years. There was also quite a deal of paint splattered around the edges of the floor.

In order to allow the floor to achieve its full potential we needed to strip away the old oil coating and with it any dirt that had collected. The paint splatters were removed and the whole floor sealed with a colour enhancing sealer with a satin finish.

Victorian Minton Floor Cleaning Hinckley Leicestershire

Here we have a Victorian floor in Hinckley Leicestershire that has recently been cleaned and restored by a ‘Restoration Specialist’ from the Leicestershire area. As you can see their results are far from professional or worthy of the specialist tag, mind they seem to be professionals at everything from carpets to wood flooring; is that possible?

The problems with this floor started very soon after completion of the work, when the customer used a Cif floor cleaner only to find that the polish simply washed away; not what you would expect from a professional job. The floor wasn’t even fully cleaned and hardly touched close to the edges.

On contacting the proprietor of the cleaning company, our customer was told it was something she had done wrong and that the floor was okay when they left. They never even bothered to take a quick look, very poor customer service.

So what did they do wrong? Well, that’s very easy and obvious to the trained eye. Not only did they apply a cheap emulsion polish over the floor, they did so over a floor that was neither fully neutralised or even dry enough to polish. The operator was working on his own, so allowing far too much water to be absorbed back into the tiles in between stopping the scrubbing machine to use his wet vac (did he use one?). A very inefficient way of working not only because of the water absorption but also resulting in dirt and cleaner residue absorbed into the floor.

The end result was an emulsion polish that was being degraded by moisture almost as soon as it was applied. Much of this polish was easily removed by rubbing with finger tips, literally powdered up before our eyes.

I don’t think we need tell you the moral of the story here.

Edwardian Terrazzo Cleaning Leicester

A great little Edwardian terrazzo floor in Leicester which needed just a little TLC to bring the floor back to life. The floor has seen quite a lot of wear over the years and being quite a soft flooring, dirt had become ingrained.

Using our special cleaning products we were able to effectively remove dirt and debris from the terrazzo flooring without causing harm the cement or marble, so no bleaching or etching occurred.

Once fully cleaned we sealed the Edwardian terrazzo floor with one of our new breathable sealers, which not only enhances the colours but also protects the floor from wear and staining.

This Victorian tile floor in the style of a chequer board had seen serious movement with the bedding mortar arcing away from the lime pugging below, creating a large dome in the centre of the floor.

The tiles where originally manufactured by Craven Dunnill and are a dead 2″ square rather than the normal 2 1/8″ and are a very hard dust pressed tile, far harder than earlier plastic clay tiles.

In order to restore this floor, we needed to remove all of the tiles and mortar bed from the affected area and remove the correct depth of substrate. We then re-levelled the area with a strong flexible compound which was tied into the existing mortar beds.

Next all the tiles were re-laid with replicas being used where original tiles had been damaged, using a premium flexible tile adhesive and appropriate grout. Once the deep cleaning phase had been completed our breathable sealer base coat and new breathable satin polish were applied.

This Victorian hallway in Leicester had seen a lot of traffic and plenty of substrate movement over its 100+ years, but as a result the floor now had bags of character, the very thing you’ll never get from a brand new floor.

This was quite a tough job as we had to tackle a few issues with the substrate and replace quite a few tiles, but at the same time we didn’t want to lose the floors charm and character by having a completely new floor; which would have been easier.

After replacing and re-fixing the Victorian floor tiles where necessary we set about re-grouting, deep cleaning and sealing the floor with a colour enhancing breathable sealer.

This Y shaped Victorian tiled hallway in Kirby Muxloe Leicestershire was in really nice condition and really only need a few tiles replaced in doorways where carpet fitters had hammered in nails.

The floor was already sealed with an old dri-brite polish which had aged and discoloured. Our first task was to remove this and then get to the task of thoroughly cleaning the floor before applying the finish.

Minton Tiles Cleaning Quorn Leicestershire

This original floor Minton geometric floor in Quorn Leicestershire had been found underneath an old carpet. Naturally like all of our customers, the owner had real taste and knew the floor would look far more impressive than any carpet and more hygienic to boot.

The carpet had kept the floor in very good condition overall, nice and flat with relatively few areas of damage. But it was plagued with loads of 4″ carpet grippers, each one stuck down with contact adhesive.

As you can see with a real deep clean and a nice satin sheen, the floor looks beautiful. Not only does it look really nice, but it will also be far easier to maintain and keep clean.

At some stage in this floors life, there was a pipe laid straight through. And the unsympathetic repair really was horribly done. Over time the concrete had discoloured, moved and cracked and ultimately been repair again in a fashion.

The floor now looks much better with new tiles, a quality sealer and subtle sheen.
