Today we had two floors to clean and seal, one an Edwardian geometric floor; the other a quarry tiled kitchen floor in the small town of Hednesford Staffordshire just outside Cannock.

Overall both floors were in really nice condition and had been kept to a high standard; it’s always hard making a clean floor look any cleaner. By using only neutral cleaning products we were able to remove the old waxes, the soiling beneath and a large majority of the aged in staining.

Naturally over the last 80+ years there will be stains that we couldn’t remove, but overall the floors both look superb when finished with our hard wearing satin finish.

Edwardian Floor Cleaning West Bridgford Nottingham

A really nice Edwardian herringbone floor in West Bridgford Nottingham, these hard fired tiles really do enhance to a lovely dark red colour.

We found the floor to be in a really nice condition with just a couple of minor cracks and some shadowing from carpet underlay and paint splatters. After giving the floor a good scrubbing with our advanced cleaning products we sealed and finished the floor off with a high gloss polish.

Like all of our polishes, this coating is non-slip and low maintenance and requires nothing more than dusting or the odd mop.

Edwardian Floor Restoration Derby

This Edwardian tiled hallway floor in Derby was originally covered with parquet flooring, so you can imagine how much adhesive and bitumen needed to be removed before any restoration work could be undertaken.

The tiles in this floor were manufactured by E Smith of Coalville and generally in good condition. However the floor had quite a lot damp in the substrate and watermarks where evident on some tiles.

After a thorough deep cleaning of the floor we applied a highly breathable sealer to allow the floor to continue to dry out whilst providing a stain barrier to the tiles.

A nice Edwardian tiled hallway laid in a chequerboard style. This was another floor that had previously been under carpet. We had to remove adhesive, paint and plaster residue from the tiles and grout lines.

Once fully cleaned a high gloss polish was applied to the floor, like all our finishes this polish non-slop, hard wearing and easy to maintain.

Edwardian Tile Restoration Leek Staffordshire

An Edwardian tiled hallway consisting of 3″ octagons (plus variations) with 1″ squares. The floor had been under carpet for many years and absorbed a good deal of the underlay colour over those year. The floor had also been treated badly by central heating contractors at some stage where they had literally smashed their way through the floor. There were an awful lot of loose areas which we had to re-fix as well as repairing the main pipe run.

After a thorough deep clean, the floor was sealed and a gloss polish applied.

Edwardian Floor Restoration Chaddesden Derby

A nice intricate Edwardian tiled floor in Chaddesden Derby consisting of 4″ octagons with blue/white inserts. A lovely floor that had been found beneath carpet, as you can see there was still carpet adhesive around the perimeter of the floor. There were a number of loose tiles and even more semi-loose tiles. We took the decision to remove both loose and semi-loose and re-fix with a quality tile adhesive, for a longer lasting more complete repair to the floor.

After a thorough clean, the natural colours were enhanced and given a satin sheen polish.

Edwardian Floor Restoration Burton Joyce Nottingham

This floor had a multitude of contaminants ingrained into the tiles. Everything from floor paint, to varnish and trapped dirt. Household cleaning would never had touched these. Then there was the mess the carpet fitters had made, not only did they drill the carpet grippers down but also lathered the grippers with Evostik adhesive which was drawn deep into the porous tile body. Unfortunately not all of those stains could be removed.

We would also like to thank the owners of this floor, as they are two of the nicest people we’re ever likely to meet.
