A really old floor in Congleton Cheshire from the Victorian era, which had been covered by carpet for many years. This had effectively prevented the tiles from breathing and encouraging damp to be trapped. The tiles and substrate below were full of moisture and it was months before the floor was even dry enough for us to work with.

A lot of the damp seems to be coming from the cellar which had been blocked off some time ago.

We needed to remove a large number of broken tiles and re-fix tiles that had become loose due to the damp. Some tiles were badly water stained, these will be removed at a later date.

Once fully cleaned, the whole floor was sealed with a highly breathable sealer than will allow the floor to continue to dry out.

This floor consists of a black and white chequer board design with a wide cubic boarder from tiles manufactured by Craven Dunnill and laid around the 1890′s.

Once the vinyl floor adhesive had been remove and the tiles thoroughly cleaned, we sealed the floor and applied a gloss finish to enhance the look and colour of the tiles.
