An authentic Victorian floor that has seen some serious wear over the years. The tiles where manufactured by E. Smith of Coalville Leicestershire and overall the floor was in pretty good condition considering its age. There were a few missing tiles and a few which had worked loose; we replaced and re-fixed where necessary.

Some of the loose tiles had been stuck down with bonding plaster, which is never a good idea; especially onto old cement substrates. In fact if you look carefully enough you can see that a few of the white squares are actually made of plaster – we replaced those as well.
