Here we have a really old quarry tile floor in Mayfield Derbyshire. The floor was initially under linoleum with a cement based levelling compound applied over the quarry tiles.
Unfortunately this combination of cement and linoleum prevented the porous tiles from breathing and trapped a large amount of moisture inside of the tiles. When we removed the cement we found the tiles be soaked; almost sweating out their trapped moisture. This naturally prevented us from completely drying off the floor, so we needed return a few weeks later.
On returning we found the floor to be dry with just the odd patch of efflorescence to treat. The finished look is of a colour enhancing breathable sealer which has a matt look.
