A wonderful old basalt stone floor in Derbyshire which we recently cleaned for a local church. The floor had seen nearly 200 years of wear and tear, damp, oil and wax stains and different cleaning techniques. All of this had turned the stone very dull and hard to clean.

It was not our aim to restore the floor to new, but to bring out the life, colour and shine of the basalt stone floor as effectively and economically as possible.

Over the course of a day we stripped away the layers of old wax, grease and grime from the tiles providing a smooth and clean surface which we could then seal with our colour enhancing breathable sealers. The natural shine that is visible is from using our diamond encrusted cleaning pads which clean without chemicals; truly eco-friendly cleaning.

A large Victorian tiled hallway in Derby. The floor was covered with the mess from all the previous trades such plasterers and decorators who had splattered the floor with plaster, Pva glue and paint. On top of this the floor was stained with old linseed oil and wax which the porous tiles a dull and dirty appearance

The first task was to remove the thick splatters of paint and plaster before thoroughly cleaning the floor with our specialised equipment which you find no where else.

The finish we applied to the Victorian Minton tiles was a breathable satin finish which helps protect the floor from staining and further abrasion.

Victorian Minton Floor Restoration Tewkesbury

A wonderful Victorian tiled hallway full of beautiful encaustic tiles, great colours and an interesting border design. Unfortunately the floor was covered with a very old varnish applied over unclean tiles, the varnish had tarnished over time and in turn obscured the floors natural colours and prevented the thorough cleaning of the floor.

The floor was never going to look its best as long as this varnish remained. This was a very tough varnish to remove, mostly down the amount that had been applied over the years, armour plating would be a better term.

Once the varnish was removed we were able to deep clean the floor and apply a colour enhancing seal.

This wonderful Victorian geometric floor in Royston, Hertfordshire was covered with an ageing shellac varnish that was cracked and flaking. The old varnish was acting as a smoke screen, obscuring the wonderful colours contained within the floor, giving the floor a continually dirty appearance.

Our first task was to remove the shellac varnish from the Victorian floor tiles with our Eco-friendly stripper containing natural plant extracts. Then came the thorough deep cleaning of the floor.

A delightful Victorian floor in Peterborough that needed our restoration services to look its best. The Victorian floor tiles where originally manufactured by Craven Dunnill and as you can see the floor consists of a varied colour palette and a range of geometric patterns.

Quarry Tile Restoration Middleton Warwickshire

A very old quarry tile floor in a cottage in Middleton Warwickshire, that had been seen by many of our competitors who failed to impress or show any degree of expert knowledge, hence we were chosen for the project.

The vinyl tiles that covered the whole floor were securely fixed down using a solvent adhesive, much of this adhesive being used to level out any eroded tile faces. You’ll also notice that moisture has tried to escape from the joints between the vinyl tiles, proof that these unglazed tile floors really do need to breath. Unfortunately as a result the tile faces where damaged by the trapping of said rising moisture. You can also see where the solvent adhesive has bleached the tiles, again a very common problem.

As the floor presented a history of rising moisture / damp problems we chose to us a highly breathable sealer that protects the floor from further staining. While this particular sealer doesn’t enhance the colours that much, the breathability is second to none; which was a very important feature.

Quarry Tile Restoration Duloe Cambridgeshire

Trapped beneath a carpet and underlay for many years these Victorian quarries tiles had experienced a large amount of rising damp that had failed to escape due to the carpet. The salt deposits which would normally have been brushed away, had as a result hardened and pitted the tile surface. Naturally it would prove impossible to remove all traces of efflorescence from these period tiles as the residue was so deep.

Our first task was to remove as much of the hardened salt without causing damage to the tiles, then to scrub away any oil sealants and allow the floor to breath. The largest majority of the floors problems have been caused by lack of breathability, so a highly breathable sealer was needed to ensure that the damp issues subsided over time.

The key point was to turn the floor into a robust and usable feature of the house which we achieved by deep cleaning and sealing the floor with the very finest of sealers, which protect the floor from water, oil and dirt and make for an easily maintained floor surface.

Quarry Tile Floor Restoration Leeds

Here we have three Victorian quarry tiled floors in Leeds that were found beneath cork tiles a few years back. As you can see from the before photos there are a multitude of stains from oils, grease, wax and some water stains from a dogs water bowl. From the colour of the floor it looks as though a cleaning product with a hint of linseed oil has been used to enrich the colours, changing the salmon tiles to a dirt brown colour.

Often when deep cleaning Victorian quarry tiles floors that have seen a lot of traffic, wear and domestic use you unveil marks, stains and often bleached etches that need to be camouflaged as they cannot be removed. This floor had all of the above in numerous areas. The bleached areas are more than likely from the solvent adhesive used to attach the cork tiles or possibly high pH cleaning chemicals.

Firstly we stripped away any accumulation of surface finishes before deep cleaning the whole floor with our biodegradable neutral cleaning products. We achieved a natural low sheen finish by applying our water based breathable impregnating sealer that will provide years of protection to these Victorian quarry tiles.

This Victorian floor in Wellingborough Northamptonshire had seen plenty of traffic over the years with many of the tiles showing signs of wear and dishing. Evidence of previous restoration attempts by the previous owners were also visible, with bleached spots and splashes from high ph cleaning products.

The first task was to strip away the old finish that had soaked into the tiles. Once removed we were able to get to the ingrained dirt with our neutral cleaning products.

Here we have a very unique Victorian tiled hallway floor in the small village of Haconby Lincolnshire. The geometric floor covered by carpet for many years had absorbed a lot of carpet underlay along with staining from oil and wax coatings.

When these Victorian tiled floors are covered by carpet they often have moisture wicked up through the tiles from the substrate below. This was definitely the case here, especially in the areas below the stairs.
